2018 Shooting Conference
Subject: “Recreational Sport Shooting”
The 2018 Shooting Conference will be held from 26th to 28th of January 2018 at Scandic Oslo Airport Hotel, 5 min by cab from Airport. The shooting conference will have the main subject “recreational sport shooting in the Norwegian shooting federation” and cover all four disciplines, including Fitasc and PPC1500, recreational and top-level shooting sport.
The 2018 Shooting Conference will embrace the entire Norwegian shooting federation and we can accommodate up to 800 participants including day passes. (Day passes applies to Saturday without accommodation.)
The Norwegian shooting federation is dependent on having, and developing a good reputation for the shooting sport. This reputation takes time to build, but on the other side it’s quick and easy to tear down. Not only the Norwegian shooting federation, but also the entire International Shooting Federation needs an offensive media and communication strategy.
During the General Assembly of ESC in Baku in July, Anna Leshchikova from Russia, held a very good lecture about the ISSFs reputation and emphasized that IOC has been very clear that the sport shooting needs to increase its attractiveness towards the public, press, television, and internet.
The Norwegian shooting federation adopted immediately the serious message and invited, during the Nordic meeting taking place the following evening, to a conference to discuss this topic. All seven presidents of the Nordic Shooting Region responded positively, and they are all participating in the conference at Gardermoen on January 26th. We are also lucky to have Anna Leshchikova and the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports (NIF), Tom Tvedt, present.
But how do we build a good reputation? What are we missing?
We must have good facilities and not exclude anyone. We must carry out our sport in such a way that the interest increases. We need to build a strong organization, both from an organizational and sporting prospective. We must be a part of NIFs NM-week, and be capable to arrange international competitions in Norway. We need to make our sport more interesting and achieve a better media coverage.
We simply should establish a long-term strategy and believe in it! A long-term strategy that deals with the topics listed above, and some more.
You might ask: What can I do? Well, everyone can do something! Everyone can show the values our shooting sport stands for. Key words like security, accuracy, precision, concentration, constant mentally challenging and immediate feedback after every shot are central.
We need to show loyalty to our organization and pay respect to all special interests involved.
And it shows strength, not weakness, if we manage to utilize this diversity and create a strong organization. We must all contribute to create the strong organization we want.
The Shooting Conference of 2018 (Skytterkonferansen 2018) is a part of creating and building this image.
We will show the Norwegian press and media that sports shooting is fun and that we have many fantastic performers and athletes.
